About de Castellane Gallery
The Concept
The de Castellane Gallery opened in March of 2010 in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn. The owner, Hans de Castellane had a vision of an inviting and unpretentious art space, where he could work on his own paintings as well as display the work of fellow artists. In the period that Hans had the space, he hosted 12 exhibitions of painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture.
Hans de Castellane, Artist, Mural Painter, Curator
Hans grew up on Cape Cod and graduated in 1999 from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn with a BFA in Graphic Design at which time he returned to the Cape and painted murals for 10 years with 140 murals to his credit. Hans has traveled the country for both commercial and residential mural commissions, including murals for 2 episodes of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" that aired in spring of 2008 on ABC. Hans also loves teaching and has led 8 youth projects where he oversaw large scale public murals painted entirely by students of all ages, working with Cape schools and more recently with ArtsLink, a Cape based non-profit youth arts foundation.
The building sold and the gallery has closed its doors for now. Hans is working on his next series of paintings, a stylized and bold portrait of his beloved Formula 1 Auto Racing, paintings that convey the speed, glamour, history, cutting edge technology, opulence, and passion of the sport. He has a vision of large paintings portraying a red Ferrari cutting through the streets of Monaco…or 2008 champion driver Lewis Hamilton’s chrome McLaren reflecting the bright lights from the night race in Singapore. Formula One is the most capital intensive and globally popular sport in the world and will blend two of Hans’ greatest loves – racing and painting, taking his work to the next level. Formula 1 will be returning to the U.S. with a race in Texas in 2012, one in the New York City area in 2013 and Hans is excited to share these works with the American fans.
