Cindy Vallino, owner of Focus Gallery in Cohasset, is an award-winning fine art, commercial and portrait photographer. She is a graduate of Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts and is on the faculty of the South Shore Art Center. Cindy’s fine art photographs feature predominately subjects in nature, presented in unique, highly graphic forms.
These particular images are made using a photographic scanner in a completely dark studio. A front light from the equipment illuminates the subject. Only about 2 inches of depth is captured, giving a "hyper real" look to the subject, pushing the image forward. The black background is the lack of recorded light. This high contrast between the extreme front light and complete darkness in the background gives added depth and dimension to the image.
