Alexis Winslow, painter
BROOKLYN, NY
Alexis Winslow, from Norman, Oklahoma, now works from her sunny little studio in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. She is inspired by the contrasts between her experiences in Oklahoma and her new life in New York. She chose to set her portraits in the New York City subways because these scenes are meant to communicate a transient feeling, of relationships not only with places but also with people and their ever changing identities. The animals and natural imagery in her paintings represent a connection to nature, and on a greater level, a connection to a core identity.
